HiRes P51B-10-NA Mustang "U've Had It!" s/n 42-106462
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

History of "U've Had It!" and it's pilot Captain John England:

P51B-10-NA "G4-H" of the 357nd. Fighter Group, Leiston AAF Station 373, England (Circa: June 1944)
This Mustang was the first of four flown by Captain John England. A member of the 362nd. Fighter Squadron.
Typical of all natural metal Mustangs recieved by the 357th. Fighter Group at this time.
This P51B was hastially coated with Olive Drab camouflage on all top surfaces
of the fuselage, main wings and tail section in anticipation of service from
continental forward airfields after the historic 'Operation Overlord' D-Day invasion took hold.
In fact, the extraordinary range and endurance of the Mustang,
combined with the continuing importance of the USAAF's daylight bombing offensive
and the availability of other fighter types for close air support and
tactical missions made this relocation to the continent unnecessary.
Captian England's squadron, the 362nd., was amongst the first to receive and combat test
the Berger G-3 anti-G Suits as well as the replacement MkII and later the MkVIII reflector gun sights
with the new K-14 gyro gunsight, a combination which Captian England used with devastating effect.
Capt. England's most successful day in combat came on November 27th.1944
when he downed four Luftwaffe aircraft whilst flying his last P51D "Missouri Armada".
By then he was a Major and Commanding Officer of his 362nd. Fighter Group.
Maj. John England's final score was 17.5 victories making him the second only to
Maj. Leonard Carson in the 357th. Fighter Group.
Other historic missions that Captian John England took part in were
'Operation Chattanooga Choo Choo' Spring 1944 over France prior to D-Day,
'Operation Frantic' stuttle missions to the USSR in the summer of 1944
and providing top cover support of the ill-conceived 'Operation Market Garden'
in the Netherlands in the fall of that same year 1944.

General Historical notes of the 357th.FG and Mustang "U've Had It!" s/n 42-106462:

This skin represents the Olive Drab P51B-10-NA with a factory applied "Malcolm Hood" Canopy Mustang
as it was supplied to the Fighter Groups of the ETO spring 1944. Circa: June 1944.
The "Malcolm Hood" was an invention of the British which was originally applied to their Mustang MkIIIs.
Recognized for it's overall increase to look around visiblity they were quickly adapted by the USAAF
and applied to the P51B/C and some P47C units.
These particular "B" Model Mustangs equipped with the Rolls-Royce Merlin 65 engine were manufactured
at the California Inglewood plant.
They were delivered to the 357th Fighter Group, as mentioned above, in 'All-metal' finish
but were quickly outfitted with topside applied Olive Drab camouflage.
Initailly the 357th. was stationed at Raydon AF and was serving with the 9th.USAAF
until they were transferred the the 8th.USAAF and station at their primanent home base of Leiston.
The 357th.FG was the first unit within the 8th.Fighter Command to adopt the SD110 squadron codes,
ie: letter/numeral combination. Another irregularity that set the 357th.FG apart from it's sister units
was the absence of the 'Invasion Strips' to the top pain of the main wings.
Contrary to the 8th.FC's directive, these top 'Strips' were never applied
and the single white UK/QIM strip remained. Just how this came to pass is uncertain today.
However, it is highly likely that such a course of action was an arbitary decision at Group level.
For which, it would appear, that the 357th.FG recieved an exemption from the 8th.Fighter Command.

Modder's Notes:

This skin folder contains a batch file, for converting tpc to pcx
for those who want to try their hand at skinning. Simply place this file and the accompaning file,
gpmTpc2Pcx.exe, in your folder containing the tpc files and execute.
This batch file is courtesy of John "Chompy" Masters who also created the 3d model. Much thanks to you John!

USE.
Simply extract all the files into your EAW folder, or install into your skin manager program
as it's instructions reccomend. To uninstall, just delete the files listed below.

The new High res 3dz set for the P-51 B is based on the same 3dz's from the P-51 D,
with a few changes to get the look right.
1. Wide view armour added
2. "Deflection" type gunsight/instrument panel
3. High res wingview added.

The new 'Damaged Torn Off Wings' (TOW) and 'roughly torn off' wing stub have been added
to the aircraft to give more realistic looking damgage FX.

(Note: Due to time constraints, I have not updated the pcx files to match these damage pcx files
created by Chompy. If you wish them to match the current scheme, the pcx files are made available for your use.)

The only changes to the main file set (when compared to the D's files)
are the inclusion of separate TOW damage PCX's.
The Complete file list and their uses are as follows-

PP51bA.3dz = 3dz file for the Left rear fuselage and tail
Pp51bB.3dz = 3dz file for the Right rear fuselage and tail.
Pp51bC.3dz = 3dz file for the Cockpit area.
Pp51bE.3dz = 3dz file for the Right wing.
Pp51bF.3dz = 3dz file for the Front fuselage, left and right
Pp51bG.3dz = 3dz file for the Left wing.
Pp51bH.3dz = 3dz file for the Gunst type transparent shadow.
Pp51bL.3dz = 3dz file for the Left Torn Off Wing (TOW).
Pp51bM.3dz = 3dz file for the Medium Distance Model (MDM).
Pp51bP.3dz = 3dz file for the Propellor.
Pp51bR.3dz = 3dz file for the Right Torn Off Wing (TOW).
Pp51bS.3dz = 3dz file for the Long Distance Model (LDM).
Pp51bU.3dz = 3dz file for the High res Wingview.
Pp51bV.3dz = 3dz file for the Cockpit - left side.

Pp51bTLR.pcx = file for the Tail Right and rear fuselage (B.3dz)
Pp51bTRA.pcx = transparency file for the TEX file

Pp51bX.pcx = file for the cockpit guages (X.3dz)

The X.3dz (guages) is not included. It's the only file I haven't altered!!

As always, there are still a few rendering issues that I have been unable to solve.
This 3dz is optimized for D3D, but if there is demand, I can work on a separate Glide 3dz.

Thanks to All who helped with the original P-51D HR model,
Salty for the great textures which make up the base skin and the MEX, for the aircraft/pilot info
at the top of the page, and for great construction and skinning detail help.
Mr J for his Malcolm hood version of the D (the C.3dz uses this) and for his transparency ideas on non-TEX files,
JWC for the wide view armour idea,
Peregrine for the Deflection gunsight idea.
Migge for the cockpit and guage textures
Sorry, thanks and S! to anyone I forgot.

Note: Skinner's Remarks
Although my part of this project was to create the skin of "U've Had It!".
I was able to use the original pcx. files from Jeff"Salty"Salter's
Sandbagger Host Site

http://eawhostsite.0catch.com/salty.html

"U've Had It!" would not have been possible if it weren't for the brilliant creative efforts of;
John "Chompy" Masters for creating the original HiRes P-51D model....
Jeff"Salty"Salter for the great textures which make up the base skin and the MEX file....
JWC for the wide view armour idea....
Peregrine for the Adjusted Reticules K-14 gunsight....
Migge for the cockpit and guage textures....
Working Flaps were created by Ray'Rotton'Otton....

My thanks to them all....
